Bristol flood risks lead to new Flood Proof products
Flood Proof, a company selling flood protection products, has been set up in Bristol and Hampshire by Bristol-based entrepreneur Marcus Stone and two others.The business is targeting direct sales online initially, but will look at its options for retail-based sales. Its products offer mostly low-cost flood defence options to homeowners, but one item, called the 'bog-bladder', is described as particularly distinctive, enabling flood victims to protect themselves against backflow from toilets when the flood table rises.
Stone said the idea for the business came out of looking into the flood risks in some low-lying parts of Bristol, and product development started a couple of years ago.
Flood risk is expected to continue to increase in the UK in the years ahead, not just from rising sea levels but also from the increased likelihood of flash floods as weather systems become more unstable.
“We aren’t looking to profit from people’s misery,” said Stone, "but to provide practical, affordable products to help prevent flood damage."
