This January 21st, WWA gallery and Industrial Squid kick off a year that will be chocked full of mind melting awesomeness with a show that can be only described as SuperKickAss.

Featuring the works of Dee Chavez, The Chung, Edward Robin Coronel, Tracy Tomko and Jeni Yang, SuperKickAss will be wall to wall bright colors, absurd humor, cuddly creatures, the oddly bizarre, and artwork that looks so delectable you won’t be sure whether you should look at it or lick it. It is a must see show for anyone who wants to begin their year in feel good fashion with works that truly triggers the imagination.

Open to the public, the SuperKickAss gallery reception is from 7 - 10pm on Friday, January 21st. All of the artists will be in attendance in super kick ass style. The exhibition will run until February 19th, 2011.

About the Artists:

Denise 'Dee' Chavez is a California native and graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a BFA in Character Animation. Having exhibited both nationally and internationally in Los Angeles, Japan, and France, Chavez has introduced a cavalcade of creatures to the world, such as mushroom octopi, ham cars, and glowing owls. Chavez draws inspiration from a combination of contemporary craft and pop culture, as well as the juxtaposition of nature and urban life, and she gives each piece a warm and inviting glow that evokes a feeling of curiosity and playfulness.
David Chung, affectionately known as The Chung, lives in Los Angeles but seems to work out of some dark, strange corner of the human imagination. His artwork, filled with humor and awkwardness, is a sort of catharsis for the moments of humiliation which inevitably color all of our lives. Working as both an illustrator and a fine artist, Chung has shown in galleries all over the United States, and has been featured at Miami’s Art Basel.

Edward Robin Coronel was born in the Philippines and moved with his family to Chicago when he was one. He grew up among many family members under one roof, and, as a form of escape, read newspaper comics, colorfully illustrated children's books, and spent hours absorbed in cartoons on TV. He eventually drew his own cartoon characters having adventures with the likes of Captain Caveman and Ms. Garrett from the Facts of Life. With no formal art training, Coronel left a lucrative career in the pharmaceutical industry to pursue his artwork and has since shown in galleries all over the world.

Tracy Tomko attended the Art Institute of Colorado for Industrial Design and supplemented her education there with sculpture classes at Metropolitan State College in Denver. She has worked as a sculptor for various companies around Colorado and on contracts for companies such as Warner Bros., Friends With You, Nike, IKEA, Guess, and The Children’s Museum of Manhattan. Tracy has recently transitioned to being a full-time painter working mostly in oils.
Jeni Yang, originally from Taipei but now based in Los Angeles, is known for making art that not only looks beautiful but also quite tasty. Raised on a staple of fruit tarts and other sweets, Yang loves to bake and often incorporates images of delicious treats into her work. Inspired by music, nature, animals and of course food, Yang’s work is colorful and dreamlike, and has been seen in galleries all over California, in Canada and Italy, and also in the Japanese American National Museum.
