Don't pay a high price for a cold turkey!

Flocks of shoppers are now sitting down to roost with their new computers. While these computers may be stuffed with great features and '30-day trial' software, those security programs come with a hidden price tag. Sometime the axe will come down: Pay now or no protection.

But before paying, you might want to calculate if this protection is really worth it. According to AV-Comparatives, the answer is a surprising no. During the independent testing agency’s review of 20 antivirus programs1 , McAfee’s Antivirus only got an “Advanced” rating, held back by the high number of false positives. And while Symantec/Norton Antivirus did get an “Advanced Plus” rating, that’s the same rating that avast! Free Antivirus was awarded.

The main difference is that avast! Free Antivirus is … completely free … while you have to pay for coverage from Symantec/Norton.
