New title sponsor announced for 2007 Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival
London, 16th February 2007 - Gable Events has joined in the Chinese New Year celebrations by announcing a new title sponsor for the sixth spectacular Milton Keynes Charity Dragon Boat Festival. Electricity 4 Business have agreed their support for what is now the largest corporate team event in Milton Keynes attracting more than 50 companies, over 7,000 spectators and raising more than £12,000 annually for charity. Those born in the ‘Year of the Boar’ thrive in the arts and as entertainers, and a whole day of great entertainment is guaranteed when this eagerly anticipated annual Chinese spectacle returns to Willen Lake on Sunday 24th June.Electricity 4 Business is a British independent electricity retail company based in Milton Keynes and specialising in the supply of electricity to smaller businesses.
E4B are very aware that many businesses are being over charged for their commercial electricity by their current supplier. Their aim is to be the local champion providing the cheapest electricity in the market! Smoothing business cash flow with an easy budget plan is fast becoming the local solution of choice.
E4B Marketing Manager Lynette Havenga Stokes says “As one of the fastest growing companies in Milton Keynes, we are keen to play a vital part within the MK community and want to provide practical support to local businesses. All of us at E4B are really proud to support local charity Keech Cottage, where we want to make a real difference to local people.”
The festival is a great chance for companies and organisations to try something completely different, promote themselves to a large local audience and foster good team spirit. Over 200 local companies have already discovered the benefits of dragon boat racing for team building, motivation and staff morale. It is also a great way to raise money for charity and the charity nominated by E4B to be the main beneficiary of the Festival in 2007 is Keech Cottage Children’s Hospice.
Keech Cottage Children’s Hospice supports over 150 families from across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes who are facing the loss of their child. All the children cared for by Keech Cottage have been diagnosed with a life-limiting condition and most are expected to die in childhood. The aim at Keech Cottage is to enable families to make the most of the precious time they have left with their child. Staff offer help, support and friendship to the whole family, throughout the child’s illness and after their death, for as long as it is needed.
Care for the children is available either in the charity’s bright and comfortable hospice near Luton, or through the team of community nurses and carers, who work with families in their own homes. All the services are provided free of charge, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This year it will cost around £2 million to run Keech Cottage. Sue Clarke, the hospice’s Corporate Fundraising Manager commented “As a charity, we rely on the generosity and goodwill of the local community to raise over 80% of annual running costs. We are delighted to have been chosen by Electricity 4 Business to be the nominated charity for the 2007 Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival and we hope, through the Festival, to raise as much money as possible for this vital resource”.
Teams of up to 17 people are invited to enter the races and no previous experience is required, just plenty of team work! The boats and racing equipment are provided and each crew is guaranteed a minimum of three races. As well as the racing there’ll be lots of fun activities on the bank to keep the crews and spectators entertained throughout the day including fun fair, Chinese lion dance, children’s activities and entertainers plus food stalls and refreshments.
Merklyn Hauck, director of Gable Events said “We are delighted to welcome Electricity 4 Business as our new title sponsor and we look forward to working with them to ensure the Festival is bigger and better than ever in Milton Keynes 40th anniversary year.”
