Fine dining group’s partnership with local organic farm creates fresh ingredients for customers, reduces imports.

Panama City, Panama -- Furthering its ongoing efforts to integrate the concept of “thinking globally and eating locally” into Latin American culture, Henesy-Rodriguez Group (HRG) recently formalized its partnership with Biogranjas, an organic farm in the nearby Coclé province. This addition to its current programs, such as its internal recycling system and the Smithsonian’s Futuro Forestal reforestation project, will allow HRG to continue minimizing its carbon footprint.

“As the owners of three of the most highly-regarded restaurants in Panama, we believe it is our duty to ensure that everything we do sets a positive example in how it affects this developing region,” says founder David Henesy, who has been operating upscale restaurants and hotels for more than thirty years.

“The partnership with Biogranjas is extremely exciting because it helps us fulfill our social and environmental responsibilities. Through our work with [Biogranjas owner] Jesus Armenteros we will be not only bringing farm-fresh ingredients to our customers, but also benefiting the local economy and reducing the need for imported foods, thus cutting down our usage of transportation fuel.”

HRG is already known for seeking out the freshest ingredients for its clients and their sophisticated palates. In the next two years, however, they hope to take this practice to the next level, aiming to raise 80% of their ingredients locally. This includes the organic vegetables, microgreens, and Certified Humane chickens provided by Biogranjas, the production of which will increase rapidly in the coming months as a result of this collaboration.

ABOUT Henesy-Rodriguez Group

With decades of combined restaurant and hotel experience, HRG co-owners David Henesy and Carolina Rodriguez have teamed up to create a group of restaurants that is pioneering world-class fine dining in Panama and beyond. The immediate popularity of flagship restaurant La Posta in 2006 led to the openings of subsequent successes Market and La Chesa. Together, these establishments have made HRG the undisputed leader of the restaurant industry in Panama City.

The key to Henesy and Rodgriguez’s success has been one simple word: integrity. The fresh ingredients used to prepare dishes, the high level of service, and the environmental conscientiousness of Henesy-Rodriguez Group operations are all manifestations of the couple’s belief that their businesses must be run with a focus on honest quality in order to experience long-term success.

ABOUT Biogranjas

Located in the Coclé province of Panama, Biogranjas prides itself on its advanced agricultural methods and on providing top-quality ingredients to local businesses. The operator, Jesus Armenteros, received his degree in Poultry Science from the University of California Davis, one of the top agricultural schools in the world. His organic vegetables are of unparalleled quality in Panama, and the care he takes in raising healthy chickens has earned him the honor of being the only Certified Humane farm in the country.
