Unique community event draws 250 to local office
SARASOTA, Fla. – A local faith-based financial services organization hosted a unique community event on Dec. 9 to welcome back snowbirds who return to the region this time each year. More than 250 people attended the event, estimated Kjell Purnell, Managing Director for the Sarasota Office of Everence.The event featured agencies that shared similar values as part of their mission. Ira Cares talked to visitors about its services for the homeless, Mennonite Disaster Service showcased the work it does around the world, Charis Center shared about its mental health support, and volunteer nurses offered free health and blood pressure checks.
Other participants in the day included Sarasota Christian School and the local Red Cross Chapter, while the host organization Everence Financial Advisors and Everence Federal Credit Union answered questions about helping people rebuild their finances, including a faith component.
Vision partner and customer, was featured with DwellGreen, a firm that specializes in real time energy monitoring and conducts performance evaluations for buildings.
Organizers considered the event a success. It opened at 10 a.m. with twenty gallons of homemade soup prepared for the visitors. It was all gone before noon. Another six gallons of frozen yogurt was served during the day.
“This was the first time we partnered with other community organizations for a day like this,” said Purnell “We feel like the guests found it valuable and enjoyed their time.”
