Professor Howard Bolnick, who taught at the Kellogg School of Management for 13 years and is an international authority on Healthcare will be teaching an intensive 5 days Executive Development Programme on Insurance Market Behaviour & Health Insurance, Organized by the Insurance Foundation of India (IFI). The Programme aims to provide attendees with a thorough understanding of economic behavior of insurance markets, and, how to apply this understanding to practical problems of health insurance. Amongst other topics, the Programme will focus on insurance market behavior, design of effective risk management tools, health insurance environment, and product development. This Programme is essential at this point as the Health Insurance industry is set to emerge as one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy.
The Programme will provide a comprehensive, multifunctional perspective on how to understand the changes occurring in the Indian health insurance environment and how to drive growth through product innovation, cost control, application of technology so that it can lead to customer satisfaction of large number of customers located all over the country. Attendees will learn from global as well as Indian thought-leaders through case studies and exercises that will help instill key concepts that can be applied in their workplace to maximize the impact made in the company upon return to work.
The Programme is taught by Professor Howard J. Bolnick, Former Adjunct Professor at the Kellogg School of Management, who is an international authority on Health Insurance. Professor Bolnick is a thought-leader in the industry that has developed and taught this highly regarded international healthcare financing and health insurance to actuaries and insurance executives in actuarially developing countries and has also served as the President of the Society of Actuaries, USA. Professor Bolnick will also be supported by Indian faculty members from different segments of Indian Insurance industry and the academic world. These Indian faculty members are authorities in their respective areas, and will be covering the challenges being faced by the insurance industry in India.
A large number of participants for the Programme will be from India but we also foresee a good number will be International participants who will be coming from ASEAN, SAARC, South Asian and African countries. This seminar is designed for executives, who want to acquire a deep understanding of the health insurance products, as well as a useful theoretical framework and practical conceptual tools needed to design and manage health insurance products.

First programme was conducted in New Delhi from Nov. 23-27, 2009 and was attended by Senior Managers/ Vice Presidents/ CFO’s/ CEO’s/ Actuaries of leading Insurance Companies/ Reinsurance Companies/ Consulting firms/ Brokerage Firms. The programme was highly acclaimed and is now rated as one of the best MDP in Insurance in this part of the world.

After an introduction to the health insurance industry, the Programme continues with topics on healthcare financing and health insurance. Learning about the environment is vital to understanding how insurance companies design their health insurance products and manage their product portfolios. Topics include:

Indian insurance Industry has been growing rapidly since 2001 when the industry was thrown open to entry of Private players as well as foreign players (max limit of 26%).There is an acute shortage of trained manpower who can handle various aspects of health Insurance business, whether it is underwriting or product development. Health being the fastest growing segment of Indian Insurance Industry many more jobs are coming up in this sector. According to S. K. Sethi, Vice President of IFI those who will be attending this programme in India will be upgrading themselves to handle responsible positions. Many of those who could not go to USA to attend this programme of Prof. Howard Bolnick will find a great opportunity to attend the same in Mumbai itself. We have planned for 30 seats but the response is so encouraging that we find the number may cross 50. Nominations are being received from various Insurance companies/officials who are responsible for introduction of government sponsored health insurance in various states of India.
