„A measurement result without any information about the measurement uncertainty is useless!” states Dr. Neuschaefer-Rube, expert in the field of coordinate metrology from the German metrology institute PTB. With InfiniteFocus, Alicona provides a high resolution measurement system that provides estimated measurement uncertainty.

The InfiniteFocus high resolution 3D measurement system from Alicona is used to measure form and roughness in both research and production. Measurement results from this micro coordinate measurement machine include an estimated measurement uncertainty with every measurement value making it unique in modern measurement technology.

InfiniteFocus is based on the technology of Focus-Variation. This EN ISO certified technology provides, with each measurement, information about of the repeatability of every single 3D point. This allows an estimated measurement uncertainty with every measurement value and enables users to better understand the quality of measurements and to obtain detailed results in a more efficient way. This additional information can be a crucial parameter to evaluate the conformity of components on a numerical basis.

According to Alicona there is no other optical measurement technique at this time that automatically delivers information to verify the quality of a measurement value as it is achieved by Focus-Variation. The areal based technology, included in the latest EN ISO standard 25178, is the key technology of all Alicona solutions for quality assurance in research and production.

The estimated measurement uncertainty is also provided in other Alicona products. This includes the IF-EdgeMaster to optically measure cutting tools in production and the IF-Portable to perform mobile measurements on larger geometries, e.g. printing cylinders in print industry.

Alicona is a global supplier of optical 3D surface measurement solutions for quality assurance in research and production. Key competence is the measurement of form and roughness of even complex, miniaturized geometries. With Focus-Variation, Alicona offers a technique that combines the functionalities of a micro coordinate measurement machine (CMM) with those of a surface measurement system. For a user, this means to measure both form and roughness of components on an areal basis. The stable and robust technology of Focus-Variation delivers repeatable and traceable measurements even in a production near environment.

Research and Development acts very close to the direct need of industry, which enables the supplier of high resolution 3D measurement systems to design both standard products as well as special solutions based on industrial partnerships.

The Alicona headquarters is situated in Austria. Additional subsidiaries are run in Germany, France, UK, USA and South Korea, and further expansion is continued. A global network of selected distributors make Alicona products worldwide available.
