Edmonton IT Solutions Company Connects Rwandans to the Web

Press release from: Aware Base

AwareBase, an Edmonton IT solutions company, announced today the donation of laptops to an Edmonton based charitable organization called Ubuntu, to help out victims of the Rwandan genocide.

When Steven Gentles, AwareBase President and CEO, first met Nicole Pageau , founder of Ubuntu, he was truly inspired. Following a visit to Rwanda in 2004, Nicole started Ubuntu and has since worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the widows and children of the Rwandan genocide. Nicole has focused her efforts in Kimironko, a community of 750 residents in the outskirts of Kigali. Ubuntu has established small businesses and working groups and is helping to feed, educate and train Rwandans in need.

One of Nicole’s latest initiatives is to get Kimironko connected to the rest of the globe through the world-wide-web. Although network infrastructure has been recently installed in Kigali and its outskirts, there was one small problem – no computers to connect to the internet. Today, AwareBase fixed this by donating and shipping laptops to Ubuntu in Rwanda.

Says Steven Gentles: “AwareBase is extremely happy to help Ubuntu out with their new initiative. It’s exciting to think of the additional training and educational opportunities that will now be available to the people of Kimironko. Although simple and straight forward, this donation is fully aligned with AwareBase’s mission: to deliver solutions that make our customers more knowledgeable and wise.”
