High demand of fast 3D measurement solutions in medical technology
For the measurement technology manufacturer NanoFocus AG from Oberhausen, COMPAMED, an international trade fair for high-tech components in medical technology taking place from 17-19 November in Düsseldorf, was a success. Numerous national and international producers within the medical technology sector visited the company’s booth and took a close look at the non-contact 3D surface inspection systems on display. They used the opportunity to measure samples and to receive comprehensive consultation about the systems that can be used both in laboratories and in production. This shows that the innovative solutions from NanoFocus are perfectly suited to meet the demands of medical technology in research & development as well as in process and quality control.Speed, high resolution to the nanometer range, and applicability with all types of material were the main requirements for measurement solutions demanded by the producers of medical devices. Consequently, the experts in the field of medical technology were impressed by the effectiveness of the new 3D-laboratory microscope, µsurf basic, and the 3D- profilometer, µscan explorer, that NanoFocus exhibited at COMPAMED. The products, for which manufacturers and research institutes searched supporting measurement solutions, covered a broad range: from high-precision die-casting parts to microfluidic components, from electronic modules to stents or implants for the dental industry, as well as knee- or hip joints. Visitors of the booth profited from competent consultation provided by NanoFocus. They also had the chance to measure their own samples right on location.
The measurement of coatings was a topic that frequently came up. Coatings are used in medical technology for a number of applications such as increasing biocompatibility, analyzing the properties of antibacterial surfaces, and defining surface roughness, which is important for implants and medical tubes, for example. “The medical technology sector is a very important market for us since our core competencies meet the demands perfectly”, says Jürgen Valentin, Chief Technology Manager. “Our high-resolution 3D-measurement systems are fully capable of covering the trend of miniaturizing equipment and components. NanoFocus technology is also suited to be integrated in production processes and can guarantee 100%-control and traceability in the process chain, which is requested more and more.”
With the product lines µsurf, µscan and µsprint, the German producer of industrial measurement technology covers the full range of measurement tasks, from the first steps in development up to fully automated inline-production control. NanoFocus, in cooperation with key customers working within the industry, develops tomorrow’s medical technology products today. “We will introduce several new products and innovations especially designed for this market in the next and following years. These complete solutions will particularly suit this industry’s demand for fast measurement technology”, forecasts Valentin.
NanoFocus AG is a pioneer and technology leader of a new generation of highprecision optical 3D surface analysis tools for laboratory and production use. With its user-friendly, robust and economical instruments, the company revolutionizes the surface analysis market and enables users in the scientific and industrial sectors to achieve three-dimensional imaging and inspection of surfaces with structures in the micrometer and nanometer ranges.
