Greater Boston Chef Offers Free Food as Incentive for Local Shoppers

“It’s far from a money making promotion,” said Chef/Owner Antonio Bettencourt of 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar, located just north of Boston on the Salem, Massachusetts waterfront. The Chef has decided to give away free food on black Friday, November 26th, 2010 to anyone who can produce a receipt of $35.00 or more from a small boutique, shop, gallery, or any other small business located in Salem, MA.

“In the food world it’s ‘buy local,’ ‘buy local’ - and while it might be one of the busiest shopping days of the year for large chain stores and malls, the small businesses really suffer here in Salem. These are the same small businesses that are my neighbors, my customers and friends. It’s a Friday night for us; we know we’ll be busy, but hopefully this will make some noise and get people to not just by local food, but buy local...period,” said Bettencourt.

Chef Bettencourt who has been on the receiving end of a surge in business due to several media appearances, positive reviews and awards for his modern take on regional Italian cuisine, will be giving away one free item from his “Spuntini” menu (think Italian tapas) to all guests that can produce a receipt from the same day (Black Friday: November 26th, 2010) of $35.00 or more from one of the small businesses in Salem, MA.
