Learn about Basement Waterproofing on "House Calls" with Ron Hazelton

Press release from: Basement Systems Inc.

Ron Hazelton’s “House Calls” episode begins with Ron’s basement flooding during a recent rainstorm. After searching the Web for basement waterproofing companies, Ron chooses to hire Basement Systems, found at http://www.basementsystems.com, to solve his wet basement problem.

Larry Janesky, owner and founder of Basement Systems Inc., visits Ron at his house and explains that when it rains, water builds up around the foundation and then hydrostatic pressure forces this water into the basement through the floor/wall joint. “We don’t stand a chance of sealing the water out.” Larry says, “What we want to do is drain it away and relieve the pressure.”

Larry further explains that all the white, chalky powder on Ron’s basement walls is called efflorescence that is minerals from the soil and concrete that dissolve in the water and come through the wall very slowly. When the water evaporates, a residue is left behind.

To address the problem of water and water vapor permeating through Ron’s basement walls, Basement Systems installs BrightWall Basement Wall Panels – a bright white paneling that really dresses up basement walls and looks great! [ http://www.basementsystems.com/basement_waterproofing/basement_wall ], BrightWall also drains wall leaks down into the patented WaterGuard basement waterproofing system that will protect Ron’s basement by draining water beneath the floor at the perimeter.

The WaterGuard then drains into a TripleSafe sump pump [ http://www.basementsystems.com/sump_pump ], as Ron calls it, “the muscle of the system.” The TripleSafe has three pumps to protect against any eventuality of pump failure, including power outage during a storm, pump overrun due to excessive amounts of water, a tripped circuit breaker, etc.

Some additional features of the sump pump system include a fail-safe device called IceGuard that protects the sump pump discharge line from freezing, and two different alarms to alert home owners to pump failure of any of the three pumps – a very smart system!

When the entire basement waterproofing system is complete, Ron Hazelton tests it by actually pouring water down his bulkhead stairs. The water drains into the drainage system, keeping Ron’s basement floor dry. Before installation, the water would have spread across the floor.

“This looks great,” Hazelton says. “If it works half as good as it looks I’m going to be really happy.” Ron continues to say that you’d hardly even know there was a waterproofing system in his basement except for the cover of the sump pump showing. Unlike the typical sump pit that many homeowners suffer with, Basement Systems’ sump pump cover is airtight, keeping water vapor and odors trapped inside as well as keeping objects from falling in that could potentially clog the pump.

The final scene shows Ron Hazelton asleep in bed during the next rainstorm with no worries of getting flooded. By using Basement Systems’ patented basement waterproofing products, homeowners can rest assured that they’ll now have a dry basement.
