Yorkshire homeowners are choosing to put house moves on hold in favour of installing state-of-the-art home cinema and audio systems that will add value to their property.

Harrogate Home Cinema, based on the spa town’s Bower Road, has seen a sharp rise in the number of people choosing this option, which it says is being mirrored in other areas of the country.

The technology it is being asked to install ranges from multi-room audio systems to bespoke home automation; where all lighting, sound and media is controlled at the touch of a button.

On average, customers are spending anything from £4,000 to £80,000 on the high-tech systems of their choice.

Andy Wyatt, who runs Harrogate Home Cinema with co-director Peter Hudspeth, said: “Even though the property market in Harrogate is fairly buoyant, a rising number of clients have told us they have decided to invest in either an audio or home cinema system that will add value when they eventually come to sell.

“In September and October we carried out 20 installations in Harrogate, Wetherby and Leeds. A total of 14 of these had gone down the sell later route. This is a 65 per cent rise on a similar number of installations we undertook in the same areas in April and May.

“Sellers are looking for something that will set their property apart from the rest, and bespoke home cinema and audio systems add a unique touch that is very attractive to potential buyers.”
