How to “Scrooge Proof” Yourself This Holiday Season

Aurora Behavioral Health System is offering free public seminars
on how to manage your mental health during the holidays.

WHAT:
With the holidays quickly approaching, stress levels are already on the rise for many Arizonans. Folks are dreading the usual fatigue, having to deal with certain family members, figuring out creative ways to make their dollar stretch and unrealistic expectations of the season. Often times, loneliness and depression ensue this time of year which can lead to unhealthy reactions from over-eating, to excessive drinking and even to suicidal thoughts. Stress can also cause people to suffer from physical ailments such as headaches, difficulty sleeping and anxiety.

But, who says you can’t enjoy the holidays and avoid the Scrooge feeling despite all the stress? Aurora Behavioral Health System is offering two free seminars to help people effectively manage and react positively to common holiday stressors, i.e. financial hardships, unfavorable family scenarios, memories of loss, over-booked schedules. Participants will learn practical tips to better cope with their “Scrooge-like” feelings and how to make better choices to relieve and to eliminate unhealthy mental behavior.

WHY:
If not handled properly, one can Scrooge themselves out of what should be an enjoyable time of year leading to unwanted side effects such as depression, anxiety and even physical illness. When January 2 rolls around, things can become even worse as many people experience a post-holiday let down stemming from disappointment in the preceding months, which can be intensified by excess fatigue and stress.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
● Anyone feeling anxious and/or stressed about the upcoming holidays
● Anyone who has a family member or loved one who may suffer from the holiday blues and react poorly
