New attractions bring double dose of star power to Bangkok
Southeast Asia's premier eco-mall, Paradise Park, and the region's first Madame Tussauds museum are the latest additions to Bangkok's stellar list of visitor attractions. The tenth link in the worldwide museum chain, Madame Tussauds Bangkok is the most technologically advanced, offering hundreds of opportunities for visitors to interact with exhibits.
"We are no longer a wax museum," said general manager Paul Williams.
A visit to Madame Tussauds is like a rollercoaster ride with constant thrills where we take you to meet some of the world's most famous individuals and the secrets of their rise to fame."
Among those sharing their secrets at Madame Tussauds Bangkok are such legendary world figures as Queen Elizabeth, Barack Obama, David Beckham, Michael Jackson, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie - all rendered in astonishingly lifelike sculptures for which Madame Tussauds is known and celebrated.
Thai-themed exhibits make up one-third of the 75 interactive experiences offered in the 3000-square meter Bangkok museum, built at a cost of US$15 million in the newly-remodeled Siam Discovery Center.
Television superstar Anne Thongprasom, teen super model Pancake-Khemanit Jamikorn, heartthrob actor Ken-Theeradej Wongpuapan, and martial artist Tony Jaa are among the Thai celebrities represented at Madame Tussauds Bangkok.
A unique "Royal Hall" presented under special arrangement with His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, allows interaction with Thai historical figures, including His Majesty the King's own parents.
If Madame Tussauds captures elements of Thailand's past, the new Paradise Park on Srinakarin Road points the way into the future.
A sleekly-modern shopping center designed specifically for the upscale residents in Bangkok's rapidly-growing East End, Paradise Park mixes urban sophistication with the beauty of the natural landscape.
Inspired by nearby Rama IX Park, the heart and soul of the eastern suburbs of Bangkok, Paradise Park's design has already been hailed the "Oasis of Srinakarin."
Landscaping at the 290,000-square-meter Paradise Park meticulously recreates the extraordinary diversity of Thailand's landscape, making it a visitor destination as much as a shopping center.
Developers intend to use Paradise Park, with its mix of commercial and leisure spaces, as a prototype for additional projects in the Bangkok and beyond.
As the visitor season shifts into high gear, Bangkok's two new destinations add to the Thai capitol's luster as the most exciting city in Asia.
