Press release from: The Madison Company

TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA (November 3, 2010) - Kerplunk™, a premium line of eco friendly beverage containers sold across Canada and the USA has launched in the UK to combat a multi billion dollar environmental concern and provide a healthy, affordable and stylish portable reusable beverage solution.

The UK isn’t as developed as Canada and the USA in terms of reusable beverage containers. The Madison Company Limited, a Canadian owned and operated company that embraces the philosophy of taking familiar products and making them better for humans and the environment, is taking the lead in establishing the premium Kerplunk brand with the distributor Tree of Life.

Kerplunk™ was created in 2008 as a healthy alternative to single serve plastic water bottles due to the presence of a toxin known as BPA. Kerplunk™ bottles are made from high grade stainless steel or glass that contains no BPA, aluminum, epoxies or liners. They are designed to be durable and treated as a fashion accessory to match individual styles.

Health Canada’s recent study confirmed the BPA hazard to human health and the environment. In addition, companies such as Nestle, Coke, and Pepsi bottle local municipal water and sell it back to us for major profits as part of an $11.5 billion per year industry. They are also charging a premium price for a basic necessity: water.

Production and disposal of bottled water contributes to environmental strain in many different ways. Filling these bottles drains and disrupts eco-systems. Manufacturing plastic water bottles releases toxic gas, produces about 3 million tons of carbon dioxide per year, and requires about 18 billion barrels of oil per year. Billions of more barrels are used to transport the bottles from factories to stores. Most plastic bottles are tossed in the trash and added to landfills where they can take up to 100 years to degrade. Those bottles that don’t make it to the garbage or recycle bin litter the land, oceans, lakes, and streams.

Single serve plastic water bottles impact our health and hard-earned income. Not only do these bottles pollute the environment we depend on, but provide water that could be harmful to our bodies. The bottles contain plastic chemicals that can leach into the water. Bottled water has also been shown to contain bacteria that can lead to various illnesses.
The quality of bottled water may not be up to standards since companies don’t perform third party testing on their products. We all know that petrol is expensive, but most of us would be surprised to learn that a bottle of single serve water could cost more than an equal amount of petrol. Buying bottled water creates a needless expense within our recession-hit grocery budget.

Kerplunk™ eco friendly beverage containers are a healthy alternative to plastic and aluminum. It’s not just a reusable container, it’s a statement with style.
