Synthetic Endovascular Repair Systems to Top $2 Billion by 2013, Says Greystone Research
(Amherst, NH) – The global market for synthetic endovascular repair (SER) systems will grow at an average annual rate of seventeen percent over the next four years and will exceed $ 2 billion in 2013, according to the latest estimates from Greystone Research Associates. While abdominal aortic aneurysms account for about 90 percent of all procedures, repair of thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAA) is the fastest growing application segment for SER.“The incidence of TAA has increased more than three-fold in the past 40 years, partly because it is being identified more often than in the past by computed tomography (CT) of the chest, which is now more widely used to screen for other medical conditions,” explains George Perros, Greystone Research Managing Director. “Most non-leaking TAAs are detected by tests such as chest x-ray or CT scan done for other reasons.”
Because of their often asymptomatic nature and the high mortality risk associated with their sudden failure, vascular defects are often considered to be an undertreated disease segment. As endovascular graft design evolves, clinicians are benefiting from a flow of incremental improvements that address real-world issues uncovered in the OR and cath lab. New products are helping clinicians deal with challenging anatomic features, such as tortuosity and implantation site compromise, and challenging locations.
A report from Greystone Research Associates examines the key demand, economic and competitive factors that will determine the future direction of the endovascular repair segment. Greystone’s Synthetic Endovascular Repair Systems (http://greystoneassociates.org/Reports/Cardiology/EVR/Synthetic_Endovascular_Repair_Systems.htm) study includes assessments of commercial endovascular graft systems, analysis of the key players in this segment, and forecasts to 2013.
