Thompson & Knight Attorneys Named Best Lawyers’ 2011 Lawyers of the Year

** P. Mike McCullough, Dallas Trusts and Estates Lawyer of the Year;
** R. David Wheat, Dallas Tax Lawyer of the Year; and
** Arthur J. Wright, Dallas Oil & Gas Lawyer of the Year.

The publication designates one “Lawyer of the Year” by practice area in major metropolitan regions across the nation. This year, the publication honored 17 attorneys in the Dallas area based on particularly high ratings in peer-based surveys for legal abilities, professionalism, and integrity. This is the second consecutive year that a Thompson & Knight attorney has been recognized as Best Lawyers’ Dallas Tax Lawyer of the Year. It is the first year the publication has named a Dallas Oil and Gas Lawyer of the Year.

Mr. McCullough is Senior Counsel in the Firm’s Tax Practice Group and has been with the Firm for his entire 47-year career. He assists clients in individual estate planning, counsels clients on federal income tax matters and in respect to charitable planned giving, and represents tax-exempt organizations including private foundations. Mr. McCullough is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Mr. Wheat is a Partner in the Firm’s Tax Practice Group. He focuses his practice on corporate tax, mergers and acquisition tax, transactions involving partnerships and LLCs, and tax controversies. He provides clients with transactional planning and advice, document preparation, and preparation of tax opinions on federal and state tax implications of business transactions, including corporate mergers and acquisitions and the formation and operation of partnerships and limited liability companies. Mr. Wheat is a frequent speaker and author on a wide range of tax issues.

Mr. Wright serves as the Firm’s Oil and Gas Practice Group Leader. His expertise covers a vast range of oil, gas, and energy matters, including acquisitions and dispositions of E&P, midstream properties, and natural resources companies; exploration and production activities; gas plant operations; marketing of gas, NGL, LNG, and electricity production; preparing title opinions; and regulatory and oil and gas litigation matters. Prior to joining Thompson & Knight, Mr. Wright served as in-house counsel, an officer, and an executive with various domestic and international oil and gas companies.
