First Joomla Training day to be held in Cornwall
What do hundreds of Cornish businesses have in common with the United Nations, Guggenheim Museum, English National Ballet and eBay?They all use the popular Opensource web site content management framework “Joomla!” to provide a world class web site framework for their online business.
Cornwall’s Digital Peninsula network (DPN) and Channel Computing, a leading Penryn-based web development, SEO and web marketing company, have had so many enquiries from people wanting to learn more about how to better use of their Joomla content management systems that they have joined forces to create the first Joomla Training day to be held in Cornwall. The inaugural event will be held on November 3rd, and many Cornish businesses will be able to benefit from fully funded places, thanks to funded places that can be applied for through DPN Digital Peninsula network.
DPN’s Anita Symons explains: “The event has come about as a result of us talking to our members and businesses in Cornwall, highlighting a need for new training in this area. We have worked with Channel Computing on developing this new training event.
DPN is actively promoting this event to relevant businesses as well as facilitating the places with funding where appropriate.”
Channel Computing’s director Peter Graves who will be presenting the day supported by
his development team said: “The Joomla framework has become popular for good reasons, especially that it allows you to create a more professional, interactive and compelling web site much more easily than using the old custom-build techniques. Joomla is very easy for a new user to use and manage, but having a very powerful framework behind that there is scope for users to do much more with it, so the idea of this day is to help basic users to become super-users and learn how to trade on-line at a world-class standard.
A fundamental contributor to the success of a business on line is the selection of the right web platform, and these Opensource products allow a normal Cornish SME to trade using the same tools as some of the largest organisations on the web. It includes shopping carts, galleries, forums, community and other tools contributed by the worldwide developer community. Joomla is also very search-engine friendly, meaning that we can produce high traffic web sites for a much more reasonable budget than was possible just a few years ago.”
The Joomla course adds to the existing Internet Marketing Courses that have been proving popular with Cornish businesses for over three years now, and which are also provided in partnership by Channel Computing and DPN. However it is a quite different type of course, and will provide a hands-on day for owners and users of Joomla content managed web sites, helping them to explore and understand all the many aspects of the framework and how to administer it.
Pete adds: “We must thank Digital Peninsula Network for their continued work with us to bring these courses to Cornish businesses, we know of many companies that have already been able to use our training to make significant improvements to their on-line trading prospects. Owners of Joomla sites should contact DPN to find out availability and funding for this course on November 3rd.”
Channel Computing and DPN will also be running the next occurrence of the long running “Internet Marketing Course” on December 1st.
