Dan Cogdell Recognized as Houston’s Top White Collar Criminal Defense Lawyer

HOUSTON – Noted criminal defense lawyer Dan Cogdell has been singled out by The Best Lawyers in America as Houston’s White-Collar Criminal Defense Lawyer of the Year for 2011.

Earlier this year, Mr. Cogdell was recognized among the 2011 Best Lawyers in America, marking the 18th consecutive year he has earned a spot among the country’s top attorneys. To compile the annual listing, Best Lawyers researchers conduct an exhaustive peer-review survey of thousands lawyers. The current edition of The Best Lawyers in America is based on more than 3.1 million detailed evaluations of lawyers by other lawyers.

Mr. Cogdell earned the 2011 Lawyer of the Year honor based on the high ratings he received from other lawyers for his courtroom skills, professionalism and integrity.

Routinely called on to handle some of the most high-profile cases in Texas and across the country, Mr. Cogdell currently represents Laura Holt, the former chief financial officer of Houston’s Stanford Financial Group. Earlier this year he secured an acquittal for an ex-Marine accused of murder after proving to jurors that the Marine acted in the defense of others.

Mr. Cogdell has amassed a tremendous courtroom track record over a career spanning more than 25 years. He secured one of the few acquittals in the Enron criminal litigation, and obtained an acquittal for another client in the Spring Shadows Glen case in Houston, one of the first “psychiatric fraud” cases ever prosecuted.

The 2011 Lawyer of the Year honor is just the latest recognition for Mr. Cogdell, who has earned recognition from the American Trial Lawyers Association as of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in Texas. Earlier this year he also was highlighted on the Texas Super Lawyers listing for the eighth year in a row and his firm, Cogdell & Ardoin, LLC, was named among Houston’s top law firms in the first annual U.S. News – Best Lawyers Best Law Firms survey.
