Polina Schlicht, Managing Director of Monumental Pictures GmbH
Michael Schlicht and Paul Heth have set up film production company Monumental Pictures GmbH. The shareholders have been active for many years in the film industry.
Michael Schlicht, born 1955, has been distributing and producing films in Russia for more than twenty years. 1992 he set up there the first private film distribution company. For many years, he led the Russian representative offices of 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures International. Mr. Schlicht also co-founded Sony Pictures Entertainment, where he was responsible for film production in CIS.
Paul Heth, 55 years old, established in the early 2000s the first Western-standard multiplex cinemas. As CEO of Karo cinema chain, he is still leading one of Eastern Europe’s biggest multiplex chains.
Schlicht and Heth produced with Fox and Sony a total of 15 films, most of which which were distributed internationally, including Fedor Bondarchuk Blockbuster Stalingrad, as well as biopic Vysotsky and War Drama Battalion.
With Berlin-based Monumental Pictures GmbH, Schlicht and Heth are now active in Germany and Europe. The company develops, finances, produces and licenses films and series for both Germany and abroad. And together with German distributor Kinostar, Russian films are already being distributed theatrically in Europe.
Managing Director of Monumental Pictures GmbH is Polina Schlicht. After spending a few years in the financial sector, she switched to the movie business. In addition to producing films, she is also buying film rights for Ukraine and Eastern Europe on leading international film festivals and markets. Films licensed by her include Atomic Blonde, I, Tonya, Molly’s Game and increasingly German films, such as Heilstaetten, Luis and the Aliens and Richard and the Stork.
In addition to Berlin, Monumental holds offices in Moscow, Kiev and Los Angeles. “Having an office in Germany, and in such a vibrant and multi-faceted city like Berlin is very important to us”, says Managing Director Polina Schlicht. “A lot of interesting things happen here; the city exudes an unbelievably creative atmosphere.”
