VRED Professional 5.0: PI-VR announces Major Release

News from PI-VR: The VRED Professional major release to version 5.0 will take place before this year ends. The new version is equipped with a range of innovations that enable photorealistic image generation in even less time. First and foremost the new version supports progressive photon mapping, so that diffuse lighting situations in interiors can be displayed perfectly.

In the upcoming VRED Professional 5.0 major release, great importance was attached to even faster render speed and an enhanced depiction of light and shadow in difficult scenes. Thus, exterior-rendering is accelerated by 30%, interiors by factor 10-15. The completely new progressive photon mapping integrated in version 5.0 of VRED Professional helps to receive true-to-reality images in globally lit scenes and enables the visualisation of extremely complex architectures. Optimized calculation methods ensure a continuous achievement of outstanding image results without drops in performance even when using many light sources. Importance sampling helps to realise noiseless image results in notably less time when using any kind of lights. Whether object light sources, area lights, light sources with IES light profiles or HDR lighting, any method calculates realistic caustics without loss of speed.

More functionality, higher quality, better performance

VRED Professional has also been optimized regarding distributed rendering. Starting from version 5.0 VRED Professional supports clustering not only in interactive rendering but also in offline rendering processes, so final renderings can be calculated even faster. Subsequent to this, the newly implemented cluster-render mode “Dynamic Mosaic” enables an optimal, dynamic distribution of the render jobs to any available computer, depending on its particular computing power.
To accelerate workflows it is now possible to select from additional downscale settings in order to adjust the interactivity to the performance features of the workstation computer. All in all, the user can now select from four rather than one quality grades.
As a further application optimization, so far only in OpenGL available render modes are now supported in raytracing render mode as well. Changing between both modes becomes redundant at this point. In Discontinuity Render Mode it is possible to work with physically correct results instead of simulated reflections. Thus, available raytracing render modes are extended by Discontinuity Mode, Ambient Occlusion Mode and Indirect Illumination Mode. Displaying reflexions and diffuse shading in the shadow material is another important innovation.

More efficiency thanks to new standards

Flexibility is even greater regarding the compatibility of VRED Professional with other 3D-softwares. Starting with version 5.0 it is possible to preserve animations, texture paths and camera positions created in Autodesk software packages during import and export. VRED Professional 5.0 supports to assign a geometry’s animation blocks to other geometries or geometry groups via copy & paste. This is great relief when creating the same or similar animations. Positioning the camera is now clearly more intuitive due to new camera parameters.
Positioning texture parameter projections on surfaces can now be carried out not only planar, but also spherical and cylindric.

Furthermore, starting with version 5.0 three exceptional modules are now part of the VRED Professional basic package: the former optional Annotation Module, Clipping Module and Measurement Module. Therewith, PI-VR provides the users with a range of tools to add contextual information to the scene, generate cuts or to make complex measurements.
