African American Expression Adds Sixty New Items to Black-Gifts.com Catalog

Sacramento, California – United States – The African American Expressions Holiday Black Gifts Catalog for 2010 was released today in Sacramento, California with sixty new items that were not included in last year's catalog. Expectations are high for a resurgence in the purchase of ethnically focused greeting cards and gifts this holiday season.

Some of the additional items in this year's catalog are new greeting card designs, calendars, journals, address books, and hand-crafted figurines. African American Expressions is already the largest black-owned greeting card retailer in America and this year they have expanded their product line. Last year they sold over two and half million greeting cards in two hundred fifty different designs.

Gregory Perkins, a born again Christian who founded African American Expressions back in 1991, attributes its success to his own personal faith in God. “I could not have done this without Jesus looking out for us,” he says. “Anything is possible when you have faith. I started this company with just three greeting card designs and look where it is now. We're not only selling black gifts and greeting cards, we're using them to raise money for inner city youth programs that are struggling.”

The fundraising efforts that Perkins is talking about are very similar to candy drives done by schools or Avon sales. African American Expressions provides catalogs and order forms and offers a 40% discounted price to those putting on the fundraiser. There's a minimum amount of $200 that needs to be met before an order can be placed, but the entity that is raising money gets to keep the profits for their cause. The program has been in effect for a decade now and has helped hundreds of inner city youth programs stay afloat.

“Black folks need to help other black folks,” says Perkins. “The media focuses way too much on black-on-black violence and ignores the ways that we help each other get by, particular in these tough economic times. Our fundraising option gives worthy programs a chance to make it which they would not have if it weren't for this opportunity.”

African American Expressions, now the largest black-owned greeting card company in America, began as a single product company selling ethnically sensitive Christmas cards in three designs. This multimillion dollar operation has expanded to include many other inspirational gifts such as calendars, journals, address books, magnets, magnetic notepads, gift bag assortments and all new for 2004, quality handcrafted figurines.
