Press release from: BelTA

MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – Delegates of the 12th congress of the Belarusian Reporters Union that took place in Minsk on 14 October passed a resolution regarding the coverage of the Belarus president election campaign in mass media, BelTA has learned.

The resolution reads that tension in mass media is usually high in such times. The Belarusian Reporters Union calls upon all colleagues in Belarus and abroad to keep in mind professional ethics and adhere to duty and honor instead of political advisability. The resolution stresses that mass media should not be an instrument to increase tension, blow up conflicts, distribute provocative gossip, and national egoism rhetoric. Mass media should advocate ideas of creation and morality, tolerance and cooperation, they should be a way to reach mutual understanding and enhance mutual respect between countries and people.

In line with the document the Belarusian Reporters Union will monitor all the mass media in Belarus during the election campaign. It will publicly shame those guilty of any blatant violations of professional ethics.
