Restaurant Reviews on Radio

With hundreds of restaurants to choose from throughout the country, South African food lovers are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out. However, the average South African diner is often averse to taking chances with unknown establishments and most have a list of 8 or 10 favourite venues where they know and feel comfortable with the food, service and ambiance.

However, with the advent of the Internet, choosing restaurants has become easier as diners can look for restaurants meeting their specific requirements in terms of location, food type, ambiance and many other criteria. Menus, photos, editorial, trading hours and other information is also available making the decision to try somewhere new slightly less risky than before.

Now, Dining-OUT, one of South Africa’s most popular online restaurant guides has gone one step further. In conjunction with local radio stations it is facilitating restaurant reviews over the radio. Various celebrities and radio personalities dine out at selected restaurants and review these on air.

Cape Town’s Good Hope FM has a feature entitled “Dining Out with Natalie Becker” which airs on a Thursday evening at 18:40. Celebrity guests dine at the selected restaurant and Natalie Becker then interviews them getting their impressions on the food, service, ambiance and other aspects of their experience.

“Lunch with Varshan” on Durban’s Lotus FM handles its restaurant reviews from a slightly different angle. The guests visit the restaurant on a Friday lunch time at 12:00n and are called on cellphone a number of times during the meal. Their review with Varshan is broadcast live to viewers.

Both radio stations have a web page on Dining-OUT where past radio reviews can be clicked and played and links to the reviews are also located on the Dining-OUT restaurant pages for those restaurants concerned.
