Press release from: BelTA

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) – Belarus is preparing draft investment contracts that will be signed at the Belarus Investment Forum in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Sergei Trofimovich, Head of the Central Office for Investments of the Belarusian Economy Ministry, told media on 7 October.

“Now we are trying to determine what contracts and agreements we can sign at the forum in Germany,” said Sergei Trofimovich. In his words, the work will be completed in late October.

It was the Belarusian Economy Ministry that put into practice national investment forums. Representatives of Belarus came up with over 20 agreements with foreign investors at the Belarus Investment Forum in London in November 2008. They are being monitored now. According to Sergei Trofimovich, the implementation of the agreements has been heavily affected by the global financial crisis. So far only one investment contract has been signed. A Belgian company signed the contract for building a logistics center at the national airport Minsk. Negotiations with foreign companies are underway. The negotiations may result in joint ventures or branches of these companies.

Aided by the Belarusian government, the Belarus Investment Forum will take place in Frankfurt am Main on 17 November 2010 as part of the Euro Finance Week. The event in the financial center of Europe will attract the attention of international organizations, investment funds, foreign companies, including major transnational corporations.

The forum is aimed at increasing the investment attractiveness of Belarus, presenting Belarus as a country with favorable business operation terms, inviting foreign businesses to implement investment projects in the republic. About 500 people, including at least 350 representatives of foreign companies, are expected to take part in the Belarus Investment Forum.

The Belarusian organizers of the forum are the National Investment Agency, the Embassy of Belarus in Germany, the Economy Ministry and the Foreign Ministry.
