About the Buddy Walk®:

The National Down Syndrome Society established the Buddy Walk® in 1995 to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and to celebrate October, National Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

The Buddy Walk® has three primary goals:

• To promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome;
• To raise funds locally and nationally for education, research and advocacy programs; and
• To enhance the position of the Down syndrome community, enabling us to positively influence local and national policy and practice.

At least 250,000 people are expected to participate in more than 280 Buddy Walk® events this year.

About The Non-Profit: Sharing Down Syndrome:
Gina Johnson founded Sharing Down Syndrome over 18 years ago to provide emotional support for families of children with Down syndrome because of her experience as a new parent of a baby with Down syndrome.

It currently provides services to over 2,400 families throughout Arizona by providing new parent dinners, parent support groups, new parent gift baskets, play groups, educational meetings, and support for educational advocacy, and to help parents of older children through the DDD eligibility process.

Sharing Down Syndrome is affiliated with the National Down Syndrome Society (http://www.ndss.org) and the National Down Syndrome Congress (http://www.ndsccenter.org).

On Saturday, 10/30/2010, Sharing Down Syndrome AZ will be hosting its 11th annual Buddy Walk. The Buddy Walk is the primary fundraiser for the non-profit group and funds raised enable them to provide parental support programs at no cost to new parents.
