Innovative database technology for Sony Music Entertainment Germany
Nuremberg, Germany, October 4th 2010 – EXASOL, a leading provider of a powerful database management system (DBMS) for precise data analysis, announced today that Sony Music Entertainment Germany will implement its innovative data warehouse (DWH) solution EXASolution for data analysis and monitoring.

Sony Music Entertainment Germany GmbH is a division of Sony Music Entertainment, one of the world's leading music companies. The EXASolution data warehouse will partially replace the existing Sybase IQ database and will be used to analyse merchandise and sales in the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) as well as to monitor all customer data. The Sybase IQ database will be migrated gradually and the Cognos BI front end integrated into the new system.

EXASolution, the database solution from EXASOL, is specially designed to meet data warehousing and business intelligence requirements. At Sony Music Entertainment Germany, the system will allow internal reports to be created more quickly using the Cognos BI Suite as well as enable highly complex data analyses. Costs are also reduced, as the solution is based on intelligent algorithms and runs on cost-effective standard hardware. A further advantage is that EXASolution is fully automatic, thus greatly reducing administrative work.

“At Sony Music Entertainment Germany, we are replacing a competing solution like Sybase IQ for the first time," says Steffen Weissbarth, CEO of EXASOL. “EXASolution is developed exclusively in-house and, thanks to its speed, it offers our customers high-performance database technology and valuable added value.”

“Reliable and fast support, better customer service and proven expertise are the major advantages offered by companies in the German-speaking region like EXASOL,” explains David Hodge, IT Director at Sony Music Entertainment Germany. “We are very satisfied with this collaboration and the greater variety of analytical options offered by EXASolution.”
