David Stycos to speak about Crytographic Applications in Data Security at the Lansing ISSA

David Stycos of Zocalo Data Systems will look at how cryptography is applied to some of the problems of data security. He will discuss how good cryptography can be implemented poorly, dispelling the myth that just because something is encrypted it's secure. He will also explore how crypto systems work to protect us, and how our actions often hinder them.

The lecture will take place on October 21, 2010 at the Lake Trust Credit Union on the sixth floor. The cost is $10 for members, $5 for students, and $15 for non-members. The event begins at 12:00 - 12:30 with a social lunch with the presentation from 12:30 - 1:15.

The mission of the Lansing Chapter of ISSA is to increase the security knowledge of information professionals. They aim to improve our members' professional careers through the sharing and dispersing of information security practices. By responding to the needs of those interested in security, we will disseminate pertinent timely information through expert speakers, seminars and networking events.

Dave Stycos has been a software developer for over 25 years in many different fields, including developing cryptographic systems for hand-held encryption devices. He is now a freelance contractor, and develops his own security products as well as helps businesses to strengthen their security risk profiles.
