Press release from: IP500 Alliance

Berlin, Germany, (September 13th, 2010)

DORMA, Gunnebo, JOB detectomat, Honeywell, LINK, SimonVoss, STG Beikirch, Swissphone, UTC, WAGO and more OEMs have now finalized the formation of an association (official Alliance) to drive interoperability and easy installation of smart devices in building automation applications based on IPv6. Key elements of the IP500 solution as the rising wireless standard for low-power smart sensor devices (internet of things and smart objects) is focused on providing highest reliability by a "hybrid mesh network" and longest battery life time due to most efficient and leanest mesh network IPv6 topology.

The IP500 solution combines protocol standards like BACnet for building automation with backwards compatibility to an installed base of wireless sensors using FSK modulation. The IP500 Alliance has chosen suppliers like Semtech to provide an 802.15.4 2006 / IC with pin compatibility and therefore guarantee second source availability, supporting the 868/915 MHz for Europe and USA, bands 780+MHz for China and 900+ MHz for Japan and Korea. For the NWL and protocol stack the Alliance has chosen key suppliers like Meshnex to support full interoperability, the highest IP based wireless mesh NWL efficiency and protocol stack.

The IP500 Alliance members focus on developing smart devices like smoke detectors, intrusion sensors, entrance control systems and other security products which will provide customers with solutions that are cost-effective, easy to install and highly reliable. The IP500 solution focuses on being the first wireless based mesh network for smart low power which supports the EN (European) regulations and critical local regulations for security and fire.

At the moment the Alliance consists of over 11 member companies and is rapidly growing. The IP500 solution will be embedded in building automation, commercial building and other sensor applications. The "IP connectivity of things" will provide end-users with the freedom, flexibility, and convenience of the standards-based world without wires.

"Honeywell is a global leading provider of smart devices and solutions in the related segment - the IP500 Alliance provides us the future IP based platform / standards that address(es) the need(s) of our customers in commercial, industrial and residential markets. We are proud to have been one of the founding members of the IP500 Alliance.”, shares Marc Boebé, Key Account Manager, Honeywell Esser fire detection solutions (www.Honeywell.com)

Helmut Adamski, CEO of Swissphone explains that, "The IP500 standard solution will allow us to seize business opportunities in defined high potential market segments, where interoperation of various smart devices is essential. Still today, OEMs struggle with their own proprietary low power network solutions, on one side, and currently available standard solutions do not provide the right performance on the other side. Due to the IP based connectivity approach and the second source strategy of the IP500 Alliance, OEMs will have more freedom and opportunities for their business approach." (www.swissphone.com)
"We as LINK GmbH believe that there will be a future wireless standard, which is open and IP-based for commercial installations. That allows the reuse of existing IT-resources and existing Know-How, rather then to introduce fundamental new wireless technologies for users, service companies and manufacturers. An open standard agreed by OEM companies will build the bases for the interoperability of different devices and will support the interoperability as well as the ability to build end-to-end workflows for individual building scenarios. As IP500 adresses all relevant topics, we believe IP500 will play a strong role in the building automation and management environment." commented Markus Link, MD of the LINK GmbH (www.link-gmbh.com).

“As one of the lead promoters of the Alliance, UTC / GE Security recognizes the real market and growth opportunity for IP based smart sensor applications using IPv6 based mesh technology,” said Bart Petit, Product Manager Introction UTC / GE Security (www.gesecurity.net).

… if some other OEMs would like to participate.

The IP500 Alliance is an open and international association formed by OEMs and system manufacturers to establish a standardized open meshed wireless sensor and actuator network. It is focussing mainly on large commercial and enterprise building and process automation applications and provides high reliability, interoperability and Ultra low-power consumption. By this definition, the IP500 Alliance is fully driven by OEMs, their applications and market segments to enable business opportunities in large projects, supported by the common wireless platform for sensor devices. With approved suppliers, it provides a 100% fully interoperable and compatible second source at the IC, NWL and application level.

The IP500 membership is driven by industry leaders from across the entire spectrum of leading product and system solution for Access Control, Fire and Smoke Detection, Escape route systems, Intrusion Detection, Lighting and Climate Control, Messaging and Localization and many other solutions.
Since May 2010 IP500 is an association under German law with Headquarter in Berlin.
