Sisters Fulfil Childhood Dream…Through the Cottage Door…

Bron Lenik and Lis O’Kane, sisters with a love of nature, the country side and rustic village cottages inspired by an upbringing in charming Rutland, decided to create an easy to use online shop selling products to dress the country home along with other carefully sourced gift ideas in ‘Through The Cottage Door.’

The sisters enjoyed a traditional childhood of simple pleasures in the market town of Oakham. Summers were spent in a French rustic farmhouse or a Farndale cottage set in the wild scenery of the Yorkshire Moors. Homemade hedgerow jam, rosehip syrup, the smell of baking bread, vases of garden flowers and a house filled with beautiful homely décor were second nature to them. It was only in later years that they realised quite how the creation of the comfort, charm and romance associated with the quintessential country home would become such a passion for them both . As Lis says ‘Our mother, having grown up in the countryside of West Wales, knew how to provide comfort, warmth and hospitality in our home by simply taking inspiration from the countryside around her. She would use anything found on walks or along the coast that she considered beautiful or interesting and combine them with unusual vintage china or family heirlooms. Our house was filled with wonderful talking pieces and rustic charm.’

As both sisters swapped Rutland for Yorkshire and settled in their homes, they discovered the difficulties of recreating the cottage style without the time required to search for one-off pieces, driving from city to town to find that perfect jug or pretty tablecloth. With many friends finding experiencing similar frustrations , the idea of an online shop with born. For busy mums, working women caught up in the office during opening hours, or simply those who enjoy shopping with a glass of wine in the comfort of their own home, the ease of 24 hour access seemed to be the answer.
