With Unstable Unicorns Sold Out on Amazon, Here Are Three Terrific Alternatives

Holiday shopping is in full swing and with less than a week to go, games are selling out quickly.

With only a few more shopping days until the hustle and bustle turns into a silent night, holiday shopping is spiraling into a sold out shopping frenzy. On Amazon.com, Unstable Unicorns, which launched at the beginning of 2018 has already sold out. Here are three alternatives that are just as fun, with some even appealing to a younger and wider audience.

1. Camping with Sasquatch - $14.99 on Amazon

Camping with Sasquatch released in November 2018 is the newest and as such probably the least known hidden gem. The concept is simple, match three of the same or three different cards from the same category to collect the set. Most points wins. The caveat is, Sasquatch can serve as a wild card or can be played against opponents. If a Sasquatch is played to the table, slap down a card from the same category, or get stuck with the pile. It’s like Rummy meets Slapjack.

The game is fun because it works with kids as young as four (with a little help), but caters to an older audience by using strategy and leaving the level of vindictiveness up to those playing.

The artwork is campy and cartoony and will get some chuckles the first time the cards are played. Camping with Sasquatch is designed like a box of matches and the camping theme throughout is brilliantly executed. Camping with Sasquatch from Lethal Chicken Games, which currently is a Toy of the Year 2019 finalist for their first game, is available at Amazon and Walmart.com.

2. Bears vs Babies - $23.99 on Amazon

From the creators of Exploding Kittens comes Bears vs Babies, a monster-building card game. Players create an army of monsters by connecting heads to bodies to arms to legs. Then when the babies are provoked, the strongest army wins. It could be a player, or even the “babies.”

The artwork is funny and sometimes gross, like the Scary Hairbaby and the recommended age is 10+. Bears vs Babies was released in 2017, so it’s not the newest game, but is a fun and creative follow up to the popular Exploding Kittens. Bears vs Babies is available pretty much everywhere games are sold.

3. Go Nuts for Donuts - $16.98 on Amazon

Geared at kids ages 8 and up, Go Nuts for Donuts is a fast-paced family card game with a sprinkle of strategy. Players simultaneously bid on one donut from the “tray” of donuts on the table. If more than one player bids for the same donut, then no one gets it. Most points wins.

Go Nuts for Donuts requires a bit of strategy and second-guessing whether opponents are going to go for the high points or to bid on the donut worth fewer points in hopes that no one else will want the lesser point card.

The game is well designed and the artwork is cute but simple. It has a bit of a Japanese anime feel to it. Go Nuts for Donuts is available on Amazon and Puzzle Warehouse.
