Baxter Named to National ASYMCA Leadership

Major General Leo J. (Lee) Baxter, USA Retired, has been appointed to the National Board of Directors of the Armed Services YMCA. For nearly 150 years, the non-profit organization has served soldiers and their families and currently serves more than 500,000 deserving people at its 29 different branches and outreach centers.

General Baxter is a member of the Lawton, Oklahoma, ASYMCA Chapter and has served as the Campaign Manager of the Partner-Member Campaign, an annual fundraiser to support the local ASYMCA. He joins LTG (R) Michael L. Dodson, former Fort Sill III Corps Artillery Commander; MG(R) Donald R. Infante, Former Fort Bliss Commander and MG(R) Vernon B. Lewis, Jr. , Former Fort Sill Assistant Commandant who also serve on the National Board.
General Baxter, who retired from active military service in 1999 after 31 years, commanded both the United States Army Field Artillery Center and Fort Sill, and the United States Army Military Personnel Command, prior to his departure from the Army. He has subsequently served as Vice President of Cameron University; as a market President for BancFirst, one of Oklahoma’s largest banking institutions; as a Vice President of Communication Technologies, Inc. in Chantilly, Virginia; and as President and Chief Operating Officer for JB Management, Inc., a Service Disabled Veteran Owned defense business in Alexandria, Virginia. He now devotes his energy to civic and community matters, and to Signal Mountain Associates, Inc., which he founded after active duty retirement. This Oklahoma company provides consulting services in business development and marketing to a wide variety of defense and training management companies across the United States.
He has served on numerous boards and commissions to include the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Lawton-Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce and Industry, International President of the United States Field Artillery Association, Board of Directors of the Lawton Community Theater, Board of Directors of Leadership Oklahoma and the Advisory Board of the Lawton Philharmonic. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Operation
Homefront Oklahoma, the Lawton Metropolitan Area Airport Authority, the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, the Friends of Fort Sill, and is the Oklahoma State President of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA).

The Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is a national member association of the YMCA of the USA and works with the Department of Defense. Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, the ASYMCA has provided support services to military service members and their families with particularly focused on junior-enlisted men and women - the individuals on the front lines defending the nation and their families. ASYMCA offers essential programs such as childcare, hospital assistance, spouse support services, food services, computer training classes, health and wellness services, and holiday meals, among many others.
