Indo-Asian News Service Breaks Indian Media Silence On Sathya Sai Baba
After years of almost total Indian media silence on news adverse to Sathya Sai Baba, several services have run the Indo-Asian News Service report on The Guardian (UK) article of the November 3, 2006, 'The Indian living god, the paedophilia claims and the Duke of Edinburgh awards'. See, http://www.guardian.co.uk/india/story/0,,1939405,00.html This breakthrough of coverage evidences a sheer degree of mounting exposure that can no longer be held back, including in India, where hitherto, with the honorable exception of India Today (Dec. 4, 2000), the media has sorely failed to investigate the worldwide allegations facing Sathya Sai Baba.I was for two years a lecturer at the college of Sathya Sai Baba at Whitefield, via Bangalore, and have since 1999 been involved in ensuring formidable third party investigations of the worldwide allegations facing Sathya Sai Baba. There have now been such by the UNESCO, The US State Department, BBC, Times of London, Telegraph, The Guardian, and leading media in the European Union, Scandinavia, Canada, and Australia. The BBC's 'The Secret Swami' (2004) and DR's 'Seduced by Sai Baba' (by Denmark's national broadcaster, 2002) have been seen by millions in various countries.
Former devotees (among them, respected ex high echelon leaders) submit that a vast cover-up has occurred, including that surrounding police killings in Sai Baba's bedroom on June 6, 1993. That - constantly rebuffed by Indian media - we have had to turn to non-Indian media to expose the facts is regrettable. We submit that Sathya Sai Baba and his top leaders, along with allied power brokers across the Indian government, political and judicial spectra, should not be above India's fair and just laws. India is a fast rising superpower, and it will not reflect well on her internationally if she is seen to shield from accountability one who has convinced millions that he is the avatar of avatars, often declaring that he has come to save the whole world before he quits it. Justice recognises good works but does not excuse thereby the bad.
