Fascination and Passion
Precision pendulum clocks and their unique challenges are Philippe Wurtz's passion and calling. Even as a child the French-born Wurtz had a weakness for mechanics, especially for his Meccano erector set. After graduating from High School the Frechman broadened his scietific knowledge by studying mathematics and physics in Strasbourg.
This was followed by an apprenticeship as a clockmaker in Frankfurt / Main, where Philippe Wurtz began to turn his attention to antique clocks and clockwork music mechanisms. His fascination evolved into a deep passion for precision pendulum clocks and the unique challenges they pose.
One Time Only in Austria
ARCHIDES now has an opportunity to offer Philippe Wurtz's highly exclusive clocks with a limited production on the occasion of a special exhibit during Salzburg Festival.
Philippe Wurtz is the current president of the AHCI (Académie Horolgere des Créateurs Indépendants - in english: The Horology Academy of Independent Watch- and Clockmakers).

ARCHIDES is the first specialist retail store in Austria – and was the realisation of a planned specially developed concept in the city of Salzburg, to present a special selection of exclusive mechanical clocks. „These time objects meet the demand of real watch and clock collectors, the symbiose of classic Architecture and fine design offers more than just simple time counting machines“ declares General manager Klaus Messerklinger. „This is why this concept is unique in Europe.“
