Press release from: Ministry of Health, Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has announced that a specialized medical team in King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah, Saudi Arabia succeeded in removing a large tumor from the bottom of the front skull of a patient in her forties, who was suffering from an upsurge in brain pressure, headache, vomiting and general inactivity in the body. All the necessary examinations of the CT scan showed the presence of a large tumor on the bottom of the front skull compressing the front lobes of the brain with generalized accumulation of fluids in the brain. Neurologists and psychiatrists were consulted as a precautionary step to ensure and determine the function of the frontal lobe of the brain as part of the normal integrated work between the Center's sections.

The patient was subjected to a drug treatment to relieve the leakage for a certain period, until she became ready for the surgical procedure. The tumor was successfully removed in full, while preserving the frontal brain, nerves and surrounding arteries without harm. Thanks to God, the patient started healing with her condition being followed up until she settled and was discharged from the hospital and is now healthy and well.

These steps come in line with the efforts made by the MOH to achieve one of the objectives of the National Transformation Program 2020, specifically improving healthcare provided prior to admission, as well as healthcare provided in main hospitals (emergency and ICU). This objective is linked to one of the objectives of Vision 2030, which is improving the quality of both, preventive and therapeutic health services.

Saudi Ministry of Health is responsible for the public health and control of the diseases and epidemics, and the development of a skilled healthcare workforce, focused on building a strong infrastructure for a comprehensive health sector in the Kingdom.
