Numerous pattern makers accepted an invite by RAMPF Tooling and partner Esterhammer to attend a foundry symposium at the new innovation center in Grafenberg at the end of June. The symposium focused on topical industry questions and requirements as well as on forward-looking RAKU-TOOL® solutions and products.

To compete with the international industry, the German foundry industry relies on new and trend-setting products. Pattern makers are looking for innovative solutions. It was with great interest therefore that the pattern makers accepted RAMPF Tool-ing’s invitation to a first foundry symposium at their headquarters in Grafenberg. For two days the modeling experts introduced new products and application methods as well as gave practical tips on how to best process the products.
At the start of the presentation, Heinz Horbanski, Managing Director, welcomed the guests and introduced the RAMPF Tooling team. Subsequently various chemical and abrasion tests and the corresponding results were examined and evaluated. These tests are especially important for model making in the foundry industry.

The practical part which was held in the technical school of the new innovation cen-ter was lead by the technical experts from RAMPF Tooling. Various RAKU-TOOL liquid systems and their practical application were demonstrated. One of the key products presented was the gelcoat PG-3104 which exhibits an excellent impact strength and is suitable for large series production. Furthermore the casting system PC-3451 which has no skull and crossbones label and is also suitable for large series production was shown. From the various abrasion resistant polyurea gelcoats and face casting systems as well as from the polyurethane fastcast, full casting and epoxy systems many different models were produced.

Then the focus turned to the RAKU-TOOL board materials. These come in different qualities and serve mainly for model production. A highlight was the new working board RAKU-TOOL WB-1250. During the milling demonstration the pattern makers could observe the good chip and low dust formation first hand. Completing the presentation was the “eco board” RAKU-TOOL WB-1450 which is produced using predominantly recycling polyol.

Of interest was also the Close Contour Casting process, an area where RAMPF Tooling is leading the way. The technology stands for quicker machining, less tool wear and less wastage. Models or molds are produced using special mix and me-tering equipment and RAMPF’s own casting technology. Application areas range from metal forming to the foundry industry for which RAMPF offers the product CC-6507.

First hand product information
During the demonstration of the different application and build-up methods with the RAKU-TOOL products the guests had the opportunity to ask detailed questions and many questions stimulated the dialogue between the RAMPF Tooling experts and the guests. “I think it is great to obtain first hand information on new products but I also appreciate the opportunity to talk to colleagues from the industry” commented one of the participants. In search of new solutions were Peter Eggelbusch and Ste-fan Hauk from CLAASGUSS: “We are already using a RAKU-TOOL board material with a very good dimensional stability for the production of foundry patterns and core boxes and we will shortly test another board material“.
