Press release from: The International S.T.E.P.S. Foundation

The Eighth Olympiad of the Mind, entitled "Brain Research: Improving Global Harmony," will be hosted by the National Academies in Washington DC on 15th-16th November 2007 and feature distinguished international speakers, including corporate representatives, leading researchers and Nobel Laureates, who will discuss the aspects and impact of brain research upon society, especially in terms of education.

The Eighth Olympiad celebrates also the 40 years of dedicated effort by the International Science Foundation and, after it, the International S.T.E.P.S. Foundation, which will culminate in the retirement of the Foundation's President, Epimenidis Haidemenakis. As President Emeritus he will bequeath the legacy of this lifetime work to a dedicated successor, who will also help to establish a permanent location for the Foundation where this global scientific-educational undertaking can be continued. Institutions and committed individuals are sought to carry out these two bequests so that this invaluable work will go forward in the future.

Mr. Haidemenakis and the International STEPS Foundation cordially invite the participation of all interested parties at the Eighth Olympiad of the Mind in Washington in November 2007.

The International S.T.E.P.S. Foundation is incorporated in the state of Massachusetts as a scientific-educational, not-for-profit, and tax-exempt corporation, upgraded by the IRS to 501 (c)(3), 509 (a) (1), 170 (b) (1) (A) (vi).

Central to the philosophy of the Olympiads of the Mind is a concept that relies on the interdependence and synergy of four individual components, namely, Science, Technology, Economics and Politics. By definition, S.T.E.P.S. begins with the inherent and inevitable human curiosity for scientific research. In turn, technology, or the application of science, has a direct impact on the economy, which itself to a great extent influences the flow of politics. In unison, these four elements are of paramount importance in affecting our lives, and thus have distinct consequences for our society.
