Internet Start Up Flimmit is a Finalist for the Red Herring 100

Vienna, 19 May 2010 – The Austrian Internet start up Flimmit is a finalist for this year’s „Red Herring Europe 100 Award“, a prestigious list honouring the year’s most promising private technology ventures from the European business region. The Red Herring editorial team selected the most innovative companies from a pool of hundreds from across Europe. Companies in the telecommunications, security, Web 2.0, software, hardware, biotech and clean industries can compete for the award. The nominees are evaluated on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technology innovation, quality of management, execution of strategy, and integration into their respective industries. The „Red Herring Europe 100“ list is an invaluable instrument for discovering and advocating the greatest business opportunities in the industry.

"This year was especially difficult," said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. "Despite the global economic situation, there were so many great companies producing really innovative and amazing products that we had a difficult time narrowing the pool and selecting the finalists. Flimmit shows great promise and therefore deserves to be among the Finalists. Now we’re faced with the difficult task of selecting the Top 100 winners of the Red Herring Europe award. We know that this year’s crop will grow into some amazing companies that are sure to go far."

“We are particularly proud being amongst the prestigious finalists for the most innovative companies in Europe”, says the Flimmit management-trio Karin Haager, Ulrich Müller-Uri and Walter Huber. “Now we are given credit and are known outside Austrian boundaries and within the European market. The nomination by Red Herring affirms our business model and underlines that the time is right for movies online. Finally offering films legally gets the online space that it deserves.”

The Top 100 winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony on May 27th at the red Herring Europe Conference in Paris (May 25th to 27th).

Flimmit awarded for innovation for the second time
Founded in 2008 Flimmit hereby receives an award for innovation for the second time. In December 2009 Flimmit was awarded second place at the ESTC (European Semantic Technology Conference) for the Film Search in the category of “most innovative business idea”. The Film Search was launched on www.flimmit.com in April this year.

Film Search: compact, fast and universal
The Film Search offered by Flimmit considerably reduces the time needed for searching for information. Before submitting the results to the user it establishes connections between online search results by itself and delivers all information on the film as well as products found on an easy to read general overview page. The user can search via film title, actors, director, genre or the name of a character. As per May 2010 users can search data on more than 65,000 films. This type of product search and the focussed display of search results from the web is unique. In addition to the Film Search Flimmit offers a Video on Demand Shop with more than 500 films for download and streaming.

Flimmit is a film portal and has committed itself completely to films. At www.flimmit.com Flimmit offers two services for its users: the Film Search with profound information on more than 65,000 films, and the legal Video on Demand (VoD) service with more than 500 films for download and streaming. Is the biggest legal Video on Demand (VoD) platform in Austria and offers films online for streaming and download. The goal of Flimmit is to deliver results on film search requests as accurately and extensively as possible, as well as to provide easy, trusted and legal access to buying or renting films via the VoD shop. Our slogan “Easy – Trusted – Legal” stands for our products: legally available within the region of the user, structured information, high-quality films and above all a straightforward handling. Flimmit’s project was supported by the AWS (Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH) during the call for “impulse XL 0902” as well as by the BMVIT (Bundesministerium für Verkehr, Innovation und Technologie/Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology) and the FFG (Austrian Research Promotion Agency/Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft) in the course of the programme “Austrian Electronic Network“.
