Advantech First Out with Freescale QorIQ™ P4080 AMC

P4080 AdvancedMC debuts at LTE World Summit, Amsterdam, May 18th - 19th and will showcase at ISS World, Prague, June 2nd - 4th

Advantech, a global manufacturer of telecom computing blades and multicore network platforms, announced today the expansion of its AdvancedMC product range with the introduction of the AMC-4201, based on Freescale Semiconductor's QorIQ™ P4080 multicore processor. Aimed at further increasing Advantech's presence in Tier-1 OEM equipment, the AMC-4201 is targeted at new infrastructure designs in elements such as base-station controllers, radio network controllers (RNCs) and access gateways for LTE as well as in networking, telecom and broader general purpose embedded equipment.

The AMC-4201 is a single-width, mid-size AMC based on the Freescale P4080 processor. It combines eight Power Architecture® e500 cores operating at frequencies up to 1.5 GHz with high-performance, datapath acceleration logic, extensive networking I/O, and peripheral bus interfaces. It combines powerful multi-core Power Architecture performance with network processing capabilities, and builds on the communications ubiquity of Freescale's PowerQuicc® product family. The AMC provides 2, 4 and 8 GB build options for onboard DDR3 memory at 1333 MHz with ECC support. One front-panel 10GbE SFP+ connector provides network access in addition to a front panel console and debug port.

The unique SERDES design supports up to four different AMC port configurations for a mix of SRIO, PCIe, XAUI and SGMII channels. This makes the AMC extremely versatile and caters to a wider range of MicroTCA or ATCA Carrier topologies beyond just telecom applications. 16 MBit SPI Flash and 2 GB NAND Flash provide onboard options for software and storage. The AMC also provides 8 KHz and 19.44 MHz telecom clock synchronization support.

In addition, this is the industry's first 8-core Power Architecture-based AMC and we are also seeing interest in its use as a general purpose multi-core CPU.”

The processor's built-in security co-processor delivers an aggregate 10 Gbps of bulk encryption/decryption depending on the security protocol and specific algorithms. This accelerates high-bandwidth backhaul encryption, and facilitates secure communications between network elements. In addition to the board's enhanced, multi-core packet processing capabilities, the QorIQ™ P4080 Datapath Acceleration Architecture accelerates packet classification, filtering, and packet queuing. And the crypto accelerator and Pattern Matching Engine perform high-throughput encryption/decryption and RegEx packet payload scanning security.

This makes it ideal to cost effectively address a wide range of security solutions, including high-end Unified Threat Management (UTM) platforms, as well as applications requiring deeper levels of packet inspection. These solutions include network management, bandwidth provisioning and lawful intercept, as well as content management and regulation.

Freescale's VortiQa™ application software and Wind River PNE-LE will be supported during the OEM sampling phase, and IPMI middleware support will include OpenHPI and OpenIPMI to facilitate system management integration into both new and existing carrier designs.

The AMC-4201 will be sampling at the end of 2Q10 with design-in quantities available in 3Q10, and will be previewed at Freescale's booth at the LTE World Summit in Amsterdam, May 18th -19th, as well as showcasing at Advantech's booth during ISS World in Prague, June 2nd - 4th.
