Sodium fluoride is produced by neutralizing hydrofluoric acid or hexafluorosilicic acid, which are the byproducts of fluorapatite. Fluorapatite is produced from phosphate rock during the production of superphosphate fertilizer. Neutralizing agents generally include sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate.
