The new Season of the Zarzuela Theatre
The Zarzuela theatre in Madrid is currently presenting its new program of shows for the 2006/2007 season. The zarzuela theatre can be compared to the opera Comique in Paris or the Volksoper in Vienna. It is the perfect place to discover and enjoy the Spanish culture.The founders of the “Sociedad artistico musical” have created this theatre in the 1850’s. They wanted to offer a new place to the public to enjoy the culture. The theatre is set up next to Calle de Alcala. The inauguration took place on the 10th of October 1856, the same day as Queen Isabella II ‘s birthday. This year, the Zarzuela theatre is going to celebrate its 150 years of creation, and at this occasion the theatre performed two special concerts on the 10th and the 13th of October.
The new program of the concert started in September with the Eva Yerbabuena Flamenco Ballet Company. From October to November, various shows will be performed from the Autumn festival; from December to July it is the Lyric season, which will include many operas (The Barber of Seville, Bohemios, El Rey que rabió, Las Bribonas and La Revoltosa).
Nowadays, Madrid became a predominantly modern city with a population of some four million inhabitants. The streets at the heart of the city are a pleasant surprise, with pockets of medieval buildings and narrow atmospheric alleys, dotted with lot of shops and bars. The capital shelters many cultural sights such as el Prado, the Reina Sofia museum, Tyssen-bornemisza and the Royal palace, which is magnificent.Madrid is one of the most cosmopolite European cities nowadays, which is worth the sorrow to be visited.
