Plum Creek Joins Biomass Thermal Energy Council as Sustaining Member
WASHINGTON - Plum Creek, the largest and most geographically diverse private landowner in the United States, joined the Biomass Thermal Energy Council (BTEC) today as a Sustaining Member.Plum Creek manages approximately 7 million acres of timberlands in major timber producing regions of the United States and wood products manufacturing facilities in the Northwest. The company serves traditional forest product markets as well as emerging energy markets for biomass. A longstanding practitioner of sustainable forestry, Plum Creek was in 1999 the first company to have all of its lands certified to Sustainable Forestry Initiative® standards.
Mike Jostrom, Director of Renewable Resources at Plum Creek, will be joining the BTEC Board of Directors. “Plum Creek sees the development of energy markets for forestry as a growing business opportunity and a chance to contribute to our country’s renewable energy future,” said Mr. Jostrom. “We are excited to become a sustaining member of BTEC and to be able to work closely with the growing biomass thermal energy sector on a future that embraces the efficient and sustainable use of forestry biomass to meet our nation’s renewable energy goals.”
Mr. Jostrom is responsible for managing and growing Plum Creek’s renewable energy efforts. Mike has worked for Plum Creek extensively in the management of Forest Operations, development of regional conservation plans, and directing of forest productivity and forest health investments company-wide. He has a Forest Management degree from Washington State University and has completed executive education at Harvard Business School.
