RTVision.h - The Online Inspection System for Profile Beads with the Unique 360°-View

The southern German image processing specialist QUISS presented a completely new approach to the inspection of adhesive application at AUTOMATICA 2006. The new RTVision.h system, which was developed specifically for monitoring profiled beads, produces incredibly precise results and improves noticeably in efficiency thanks to a clever lighting and image capturing concept.

Profiled beads are used above all for adhesive applications that are sturdy and critical to safety in automobiles. Their form and volume must equal a predetermined value. When it comes to quality control, the track’s height, width, length and continuity must be reliably controlled before joining. However, conventional systems have difficulty completely capturing the top side as well as the center of a track.

RTVision.h accomplishes this with a revolutionary optical concept in a compact sensor. It is installed directly on to the application nozzle and contains the lighting as well as the lenses from several synchronous cameras. From the application nozzle vantage point, the cameras capture the bead from different views and together provide a complete 360° image of the track. The sensor has a direct view of all the dimensions of the track during execution and automatically follows any change of direction when the robot runs. One highlight is the innovative projected lighting from the high-power LED, which circularly bevels around the bead, better gauging it than conventional vertical light sources and therefore revealing significantly more application mistakes - including those in hard-to-reach places. This is how RTVision.h achieves unique inspection quality, exposes hidden weaknesses in production and opens up completely new perspectives in quality management and process optimization.

In economic terms, RTVision.h is superior to all systems on the market. It is a bargain because it is produced without expensive components such as laser projectors or tracking systems. All of the components are maintenance-free and withstand wear and tear. RTVision.h does not require a moving cable, slip rings, or joints that wear down over time and need to be replaced, resulting in the unit regularly being out of order. Even the LED lighting component is maintenance-free and does not require any special safety measures as opposed to the laser alternative. This translates into a minimum of set-up and maintenance time with maximal reliability and productivity during the application process.
