New Palo version 3.1

Press release from: Jedox

Jedox is releasing the new GA version 3.1 of the Open Source Business Intelligence Software Palo. In addition, a new ramp-up version of the Palo OLAP GPU is being shown for the first time with significant speed increases in the new version.

Freiburg, 31.03.2010 - Jedox is releasing today the new versions of the Open Source Business Intelligence Software for Microsoft Excel and Palo Suite. As of today both programs are available in the new Palo for Excel 3.1 and Palo Suite 3.1 versions, both as open source as well as a commercial premium edition for download.
With the new release version 3.1 includes more than 50 new features that all enhance components of Palo. In addition, performance and stability have been further optimized.

The integration of all web-based components such as Palo, Palo ETL,Palo Spreadsheet and Palo Pivot into a single interface was the main objective in the development of Palo 3.1.
Now, all applications are available in an integrated web environment, which makes the experience for the users and the installation and maintenance of the software much easier.

A highlight of version 3.1 is the new Palo Spreadsheet. The Palo spreadsheet offers an "Excel"-like interface in a Web browser. With this development there is the capability to easily and efficiently access data in Palo OLAP through a web browser. Jedox consistently pursues with Palo the spreadsheet approach to create business intelligence applications. With this, business users won’t require training to transfer existing Excel Reports and applications to the web and deploy new reports with their Excel know-how. In contrast to the traditional use of Excel, the combination of Excel + Palo ensures centralized data consistency in the spreadsheets.
Another innovation is the "Dyna-Ranges“. For the first time when using this function it is possible to create structurally dynamic reports which when changes happen change into typical dimensions such as products or accounts thus saving the corresponding burden of adjustments and preventing transition errors.

Palo OLAP GPU

With Palo version 3.1 Jedox is also presenting a ramp-up version of Palo OLAP GPU.
With this expansion for Palo OLAP, it is now possible to load databases into memory of a Graphic Processor Unit (GPU). Graphic processors are optimized for parallel calculations of values and are therefore ideally suited for fast processing of complex queries, such as those encountered in typical Business Intelligence applications. The more complicated the calculations are, the higher the performance gain over conventional processors (CPUs).
To further optimize the ramp-up version under controlled conditions, Jedox plans over the next 6 months to implement Palo OLAP GPU into existing applications with a few selected customers.

A detailed description of all improvements and new features are included in the document "What's new in Palo 3.1", which can be downloaded at http://www.jedox.com/en/community/mypalo/my-palo-installation-first-steps.html.

The new 3.1 versions of Palo for Excel, Palo Suite and the ramp-up version of Palo OLAP GPU are also presented at the Palo Global Roadshow 2010, which will be held in April and May, including 25 cities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and UK. Dates and registration at www.paloroadshow.com .
