The over all value of a vehicle can ultimately be controlled by the appearance and condition of the vehicle’s exterior and interior. One main goal that many car care enthusiasts share is protecting their investment by keeping their cars looking new through regular care and detailing.

Basic car care starts with a good basic wash. This wash should include washing the wheels, tires, wheel wells, exterior paint, windows, and vacuuming the interior. A car should be washed whenever a wash is needed. Generally this is about once every two weeks. Once a car has had a complete detail the basic wash should be routine and thorough enough to where the car is kept to the detailed condition.

When washing a car’s painted finish never use dish soap, always use soap made for automotive use. Dish soaps contain harsh elements that strip all protective coating from the finish, leaving the paint dry and open to all types of contaminants. Proper wheel cleaners must also be used when washing a car’s wheels, especially after market wheels. It is common for most car owners to neglect their car’s interior. A vehicle should be vacuumed as many times as exterior is washed. Soils or dirt embedded in the carpet and upholstery are very hard to see and will deteriorate the condition and life of the material. Spraying carpets and upholstery with a foam cleaner before vacuuming is a great way to remove light stains and embedded soils.

Having streak free windows is a matter of patience and a good streak proof window cleaner. Use two towels when cleaning windows. Spray the streak proof window cleaner on the glass, then wipe with one towel and use the other to polish off the streaks and residue.
