Lithium hydride (LiH) is an inorganic, colorless, and solid compound. It is soluble and nonreactive with certain molten salts such as lithium fluoride, lithium borohydride, and sodium hydride. Lithium hydride is prepared by passing hydrogen gas over lithium metal, which is usually used for the preparation of lithium aluminum hydride. Lithium hydride is a material used for hydrogen storage and as a Li+ ion conductor. Lithium Hydride is widely used in preparation of LiAlH4, a powerful reducing agent used in organic synthesis.

Increasing adoption of lithium hydride by various end-use industries is the major factor driving growth of the lithium hydride market. Lithium hydride has applications in hydrogen storage and fuel and as a precursor to complex metal hydrides. Lithium-based rechargeable batteries are majorly used in electric vehicles, which in turn is driving growth of the lithium hydride market. Furthermore, it is used in nuclear chemistry for shielding nuclear reactors with the isotope lithium-7 (Li-7) and it can be fabricated by casting.
