Equipping the Green Economy
March 7, 2010 – Industrial waste from factories, construction site outflow and clean-up projects pose an ongoing challenge to America’s efforts at protecting the country’s water resources. The government is beginning to invest prodigious amounts of time and money into enacting strict regulatory standards and into cleaning up its rivers, lakes, canals, ponds and shorelines.Current dredging projects, charged with cleaning up waterways such as the Hudson River, the New York City Canal, the Grand Calumet River and the Delaware River, to name several, demonstrate the sense of seriousness and urgency being shown to safeguarding water resources. As the drive to create jobs through the development of the green economy hastens, environmental manufacturers will be responsible for equipping the industry with its necessary supplies.
The American Recovery and Investment Act, signed into law in 2009, appropriated $7.22 billion for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) projects. A large portion of this fund has been reserved for controlling water pollution. Floating turbidity and silt barriers are one of the primary means by which pollutants are prevented from flowing through water. They are recognized by environmental regulatory agencies as the standard for ensuring the control of industrial waste, for implementing clean-up activities and for containing outflow from construction projects near waterways.
