Out of the Classroom and into the Real World

Press release from: Institute for Educational Advancement

South Pasadena, CA -- March 2010 --This summer, gifted and talented high school students from local communities and across the country will step out of the classroom and into the real world of cutting-edge scientific research at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, medical research at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and industrial design at the Art Center College of Design. Additional Apprenticeship Los Angeles sites will be offered at the California Science Center, the Los Angeles Superior Court, and Avery Dennison Research Center.
Through the Institute for Educational Advancement’s Apprenticeship Program, students spend three or four weeks in Los Angeles or San Francisco working under the direction and guidance of industry experts at distinguished institutions on projects that matter—real world projects that could directly help people and improve their quality of life.
The Apprenticeship Program also exposes students to potential careers in their fields of interest and enables them to see first-hand how advances in those fields can impact society as a whole. Even if students do not pursue their Apprenticeship field as a career, they can learn valuable lessons about the incredible potential they have within themselves—lessons that can prepare them to set and achieve their future educational and professional goals.
This summer will mark the twelfth year of the Institute for Educational Advancement's Apprenticeship Program, which has received funding from The Ahmanson Foundation and The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation. The 2010 program offers eleven different Apprenticeships in the arts, sciences and law. San Francisco sites include Genetic Epidemiology at the University of California, San Francisco.
The Institute for Educational Advancement is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting our nation’s most talented young people in identifying and developing their full potential. More information about the Apprenticeship Program is available at www.educationaladvancement.org.
