New Generation of WebPen Online Signature Software Released
Sihanoukville, Cambodia - February, 2010 - John D. Best, CEO of ToucanMultimedia.com announces the release of a major new version of WebPen, the electronic signature website utility for E-commerce document authentication.WebPen by ToucanMultimedia.com, is a web application that allows online documents to be signed on websites in the traditional manner with a hand-written signature, drawn using the mouse or touchpad as a pen. The new version, WebPen v2, has a completely new signature engine to replace the Java applet used by previous versions. The new engine, based on SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), runs natively in the browser without the need for Java, Flash, .Net, or any other kind of add-on. The new WebPen loads much faster than previous versions, and has improved graphics.
The popularity of paperless documents with electronic signatures is rapidly increasing on the internet because they avoid lost sales due to the delay and hassle required to print, sign and fax documents the old-fashioned way. E-commerce is in the process of adapting to new paperless ways of conducting business. One essential requirement of E-commerce is a means of authenticating documents and agreements.
The first effort to fill this need was PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) or “digital signature” schemes. Such PKI based systems have been slow to gain acceptance in E-commerce due to several inherent problems: the scheme uses long, complex, passwords that must be stored somewhere, and are therefore susceptible to theft; PKI is shrouded in confusing terminology, and it depends on a third party certificate authority to which fees must be paid, and who could go out of business at any time.
According to Mr. Best, WebPen is gaining traction as the method of choice for authenticating online documents because it builds upon centuries of tradition and legal precedent, it is fast, simple, doesn’t confuse the user, and it creates a permanent signature image. WebPen facilitates E-commerce backend operations as companies move to paperless systems, because since the signature is already in digital form, there is no need to scan documents.
Those interested in WebPen for use on a website, or would just like to have fun writing with the mouse, can try WebPen online, or download a demo version at http://www.toucanmultimedia.com.
